The start of the “reading list” from Rita Mae Brown’s Starting from Scratch, Caedmon’s Hymn is a very small part of Venerable Bede’s Ecclesiastical History of the English PeopleĀ (which, in its complete text, is later on Brown’s list). The Hymn itself is nothing “spectacular,” although the story of Caedmon–who could not write poetry unless it pertained to God–was interesting.
